Knowing new stories

Ships T hat Pass Author: Shashi Deshpande  Ships That Pass is a beautifully written book with a gripping story line. This story has got everything in it i.e emotions, intensity and mystery with well portrayed characters. It also throws light on relationships and the way it changes with the time. Radhika the main protagonist was really an appealing character whom we can easily relate to. I just could not put down this book until I finished it. I am so happy that I have discovered an author like Shashi Deshpande. I suggest you all to read this book. 

Mrs Funnybones Author:Twinkle Khanna    This book is really a entertainer. It simply puts smile on one's face. The author Twinkle Khanna has beautifully narrated the humors enclosed in her daily life. We are so engrossed in our busy life, that we tend to neglect small humors happening in our daily routine. The protagonist is the author herself and she has tried to portray her life as an ordinary Indian Wife, daughter in law and mother. The book reminds us that even the ordinary day to day incidents in our life can be enjoyed if you just have the right attitude towards life. 

The old man and his god  Reading Sudha Murty's writings has always been an enjoyable experience for me. She is one of the many women who inspire me. Her writing is very simple, honest and very straightforward. There are no frills or fancy words,but the content of her unforgettable stories always make the readers sit up and reflect. This book is a collection of 25 stories, each showcasing the different facts of human nature as experienced by Sudha Murty in her interactions with people as chairperson of the Infosys foundation and her family and friends. The most unforgettable one for me was the story on 'Mother's Love'. A must for all lovers of Sudha Murty's stories. 

Book:Mahashweta Author:Sudha Murty  ' Mahashweta' is based on a very sensitive subject- Vitiligo. The story is poignant and expressed in a very simple language by Sudha Murty. In this story she clearly explains how insensetively our society behaves towards a person who is suffering from a Vitiligo,educated or not. Dr. Anand falls in love with the beautiful Anupama, when he sees her for the first time and soon marries her. Later Anand flies to England for higher studies leaving Anupama behind, telling her to join him later. Meanwhile Anupama is diagnosed with Vitiligo. All alone with no one to take care of her and she seeks emotional support and soothing words from Anand. Being a doctor himself she has full faith in him, but all she gets in return is his aloofness. Her faith is trusted in every step from there on, neither she is allowed to live peacefully in her in-laws place nor in her parents. The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad Author:Twinkle Khanna  The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad is a collection of four short stories with women and their basic needs playing a pivotal role in each story.  This book has four stories and i'll go one by one: The first story 'The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad', is about Lakshmi who single handedly transforms her village and women folk in it. It deals with the most common issue of our country that is the birth of a girl child. When Lakshmi's sister comes back home from her marital home, Lakshmi realizes the pain that the parents of girl child has to go through. She sets to solve all their problems and does so successfully. While the story is predictable it does leave you with a smile in end. The second story is 'Salaam Noni Appa'.
